Our Vineyards

Ballabourneen Vineyards are located in two main areas in the Lower Hunter, Lovedale and Pokolbin. Varieties such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Verdelho are sourced from Lovedale, particularly the Majors Lane vineyard, a uniquely different vineyard due to the three very different soil types that are found. A small and unexpected patch of red volcanic soil to a large patch of light clay loam over yellow clay to a wonderful patch of sandy loam, where our award winning Semillons are sourced. This diverse cross section of soils results in Ballabourneen producing wine of individual charm and character. Brycefield Vineyard, another vineyard located on Lovedale Road is where Ballabourneen sources our exciting emerging variety Verdelho, a popular wine amongst consumers as it is suited to all occasions.

Ballabourneen Shiraz is harvested from two vineyards in Pokolbin, Hillside Vineyard and Valley View, located on the foothills of the Brokenback Ranges. Both of these classic Hunter vineyards have sprawling canopies; planted in the late 60’s and early 70’s on Volcanic Red loam over limestone they produce grapes of excellent quality with great aging potential.
Ballabourneen also sources fruit from regions such as Wrattonbully and McLaren Vale in South Australia as well as Young in NSW, for its popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blends. Daniel has selected these regions as he believes they provide a unique and delicious blend of flavours that have great aging potential and harmony.
