Meet Alex and Di

Alex and Di Stuart

Alex, OAM Very Important Bloke

On a business trip to the Hunter in 1993 we were struck by the beauty and lifestyle of the area and realised that the Hunter Valley would be an ideal place to have a small block of land at which we could relax, escape the pressures of Sydney and enjoy the areas bountiful and beautiful wines and food.

After a brief search we were lucky enough to find a small piece of heaven in the Lovedale area and from that moment we were gradually seduced into planting grape vines and then into having wines made for us by the late Alasdair Sutherland from Capercaillie, ably assisted by Daniel Binet, his assistant winemaker. The success we enjoyed due to the quality fruit we produced and the superb wines made for us by Alasdair and Daniel convinced us that we had made the right choice in winemaker and in moving here in the early 2000’s.

Alex has been deeply involved in the local and regional tourism industries as recently retired President of Hunter Valley Wine Country Tourism and holds a seat on the board with Tourism Hunter . In his spare time he is involved with the Hunter Valley Harlequins and organizes the Golden Oldies Rugby Festivals as well other community events.

When Alex is not in the winery / meetings or greeting visitors at cellar door he may be found unwinding listening to his favourite Pink Floyd album.

Di-sy, Minister for the Arts and wife of the Very Important Bloke

Behind every great man there is a great woman and you can be sure that Di Stuart definitely fits this description. Di Stuart grew up in Paddington, Sydney and has been married to Alex for over 44 years. She is great friends with everyone in the district and having lived in lovedale for near 17 years there are few people she doesn’t know.

Disy is mistress quilter and interior designer extraordinaire and her floral designs are equivalent to none and she even finds the time for yoga. Disy has a fabulous garden, adores her 2 children and 3 grandchildren, can cook up a mean salmon mousse and baked ham, with mustard sauce. Disy tries to keep Alex in line and you will often find Disy in the cellar door on a weekend where there is always a laugh to be shared.
